Hello World

👋

Welcome to my corner of the internet! I'm Oskar, a software developer based in Edinburgh, and this is the start of something I've been meaning to do for a while, write about my journey in tech.

Who Am I?

I'm a software engineer with over 6 years of experience, primarily working with Java and the Spring ecosystem. Currently, I'm pursuing a Master's in Software Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University while building tools and contributing to the developer community.

My journey has taken me through:

  • Enterprise development at Diageo, working on inventory management systems
  • Game server infrastructure handling thousands of concurrent players
  • Esports tooling for tournament management on FACEIT
  • Open source with projects like Volt, my lightweight Java ORM

What to Expect

This blog will be a mix of:

  • Technical deep-dives — Breaking down complex problems and solutions
  • Project updates — Progress on Volt and other open-source work
  • Lessons learned — Things I wish I knew earlier in my career
  • Tools and workflows — What I use and why

I believe in learning in public. Writing helps solidify understanding, and if something I share helps even one person, that's a win.

Current Focus

Right now, I'm excited about:

  1. Volt — Building a Java ORM that doesn't get in your way.

  2. Graphics Programming — Exploring Vulkan in my spare time. There's something satisfying about working close to the metal.

  3. Graduate Studies — Balancing work with my Master's program, diving deeper into software architecture and engineering principles.

Let's Connect

If you're interested in any of the topics I write about, or just want to chat:

Thanks for stopping by. Here's to building cool things and sharing what we learn along the way.
